The right to safe and accessible housing for people with disabilities is one of the most frustrating aspects of modern life. Why? Because very few homes are accessible and housing laws are complicated.
Every year, the Southeast ADA Center answers hundreds of questions about housing rights for people with disabilities. While most housing rights are covered by the Fair Housing Act (FHA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other Federal, state, and local laws may apply.
Our guests for this ADA Live! episode are Robin Paul Malloy, E.I. White Chair and Distinguished Professor of Law at Syracuse University, and Peter Blanck, University Professor and Chairman of the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University. Peter and Robin discuss court cases involving housing rights, zoning laws, reasonable modifications to housing policies, and issues that impact the rights of people with disabilities to live in accessible homes and communities.
