Holidays are a busy time, filled with the opportunity and responsibility for hotels, restaurants, and other places of public accommodation to provide access for every customer. Holidays are also a time of increased challenges for many people with disabilities. Some people may be overwhelmed by changes in typical routines and the sensory stimulation of holiday events. They may need a quiet space or sensory-friendly options. Others may encounter accessibility barriers to buying, wrapping, or opening gifts and need reasonable modifications to business rules or services.
The Southeast ADA Center reached out to an expert on the ADA and hospitality to walk us through the ADA obligations of businesses and how they can meet the needs of people with disabilities during the holidays. Our guest is Nancy Horton, Associate Director of the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center, a project of TransCen, Inc. The Mid-Atlantic ADA Center is a regional ADA center of the ADA National Network.
