    Mr. Tschida has worked for AUCD since 2017. This membership organization supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs in every U.S. state and territory, and all are part of universities or medical centers. The Centers connect university resources with their community to make meaningful changes for people with disabilities.

  • University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD)
    This AUCD-based organization works for full inclusion of people with disabilities in their communities. There are 67 UCEDDs located at universities in every state and territory.

  • Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND)
    These AUCD programs provide long-term, graduate level interdisciplinary training, services, and care to improve the health of infants, children, and teens with disabilities. LEND programs operate within a university system, usually as part of a University Center for Excellence (UCEDD), and they work with local university hospitals and/or health care centers. There are 60 LEND programs in the U.S.

  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRC)
    These centers work to prevent and treat disabilities through biomedical and behavioral research, by developing assistive technologies, and by advancing prenatal diagnosis and newborn screening. There are 16 IDDRCs with AUCD membership.

  • National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)
    In 2014 Mr. Tschida was appointed as director of NIDILRR at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. A program of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), NIDILRR is the federal government’s premier applied research agency impacting individuals with disabilities.   • Disability and Rehabilitation Research Program (DRRP) – This NIDILRR program funds knowledge translation, building capacity for minority research entities, individual research projects, and other work, including its oversight of the Southeast ADA Center as a member of the ADA National Network.

  • Model Systems Program
    NIDILRR’s Model Systems programs in spinal cord injury (SCIMS), traumatic brain injury (TBIMS), and burn injury (BMS) provide coordinated systems of rehabilitation care and conduct research on recovery and long-term outcomes. The programs also track Model Systems patients over time in large databases.

  • Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD)
    AHEAD offers resources, training and networking opportunities to disability resource professionals, student affairs personnel, ADA coordinators, diversity officers, AT/IT staff, faculty and other instructional personnel, and colleagues working with students with disabilities.

    Research and contemporary best practices related to disabled college students, college and university disability services offices, disability educators, and disability studies in higher education.
