Orientation and Mobility expertise at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Bill is a Blind Rehabilitation Specialist in Orientation and Mobility (O&M) expert at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Southeastern The Blind Rehabilitation Centers. He has worked in Information Technology at Kent State Medical Center, as a PSA for the VA, a Case Manager for the Blind with Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB), and as Senior Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist with Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS). At the VA, he developed admissions, scheduling, and data collection systems. With his tech background, Bill pushes Assistive technology (AT) and O&M, developing indoor maps and durable Braille using 3D printing. He holds a BA from Kent State University in Justice Studies and Political Science and an MA in O&M from Western Michigan University . His specialities extends to mastering assistive technologies, where he train Veterans in the use of screen readers, magnification software, and various adaptive devices. This specialized instruction significantly improves their daily communication and task management. It is immensely rewarding to witness the autonomy and empowerment we bring to the lives of those we serve.
