Director, The Aphasia Recovery Connection

Carol Dow-Richards is the Director of the nonprofit The Aphasia Recovery Connection that works to support families impact by the language disability of aphasia. Her journey started over 25 years ago when her 10-year-old suffered a massive stroke that left unable to speak, read, or write in addition to paralysis. Together, they navigated the road to recovery – finding some bumpy spots due to accessibility issues. She’s appeared on Good Morning America and The Doctors. She received the Innovator Award at the AphasiaAccess Leadership Summit in 2023. She is a contributing author in Healing the Broken Brain by New York Times bestselling author Dr. Mike Dow, her older son.
